    Birthday!
Next week on August 16th it is my birthday, yay!

HOWEVER. I will not be having a party. For in an hilarious turn of events, that weekend is also the weekend of Autoassembly, which is the largest European Transformer convention. And it's in Birmingham to boot.

So uh, guess where I'll be!

    The Final Lesson
Currently signed off work sick. Don't worry, getting much better! In the meantime I've been relaxing by doing some writing and colouring. A little preview here:

    A Voice In The Dark
Some of you might remember the Mosaics I'm working on. One of them, done with the rather wonderful Jake Isenberg is now up. (Didn't get a chance to fiddle with the words any more I'm afraid!)

Feedback has been good so far. If anyone wants to big me up (or down!) on any of the below links, feel free!

    Transformers 2
Saw Transformers today, it left me feeling... mixed. Below is my low-spoiler review of the film in order for you to learn from my geekery.

    Preview
Work and life has me in a horridly depressing funk at the moment.

HOWEVER despite all that, I had some nice art drop into my inbox this Monday which I promptly set to work colouring. Here's a preview:

    Photobucket

Its for a Transformers Mosaic strip, written by me and drawn by Jake Isenberg, who's been working on the fan club comic for Fun Publications, which is pretty neat. And my colours seem to be improving too. I'm currently going over the script to edit it down slightly since it is a bit 'wordswordswords' at the moment.

    Red Dwarf
    Dear god.

It is finally all over, and is probably one of the worst, most embarressingly awful TV shows I have ever seen. How on earth did that get past the first draft?

I mean, it was terrible! Overlong, unfunny and cringeworthy. What a world we live in, eh?

    Easter TV
I really really liked Doctor Who, let that be said. Good, solid stuff. I still can't take Michelle Ryan seriously in anything after Eastenders though

Red Dwarf was awful though. Atrocious pacing, but most importantly, not funny at all! How do you make a comedy with not a single joke in it?

Meanwhile in recognition of the wonderful spate of murders in Eastenders lately, I've written an article on the best Eastenders deaths!

    Writing Again!
Here's an odd one. In an attempt to encourage us to write more and throw us out of a creative malaise, a friend and I have started up a weekly blog where we post comic scripts we're working on. Just the scripts so no pretty art, but if anyone wants to draw pretty art please do! Hopefully it will also be a way to get feedback and criticism etc. So uh, please do that as well.

My first entry is an idea thats been kicking about for years but I've never done anything with, despite having a mostly complete script sitting about on my desk for ages.

It is a world where every single conspiracy theory is 100% completely accurate. It is the world of... THE MONTAUK PROJECT!

(Formatting went a bit odd since wordpress can be a pain, I'd recommend the PDF version which is up for download too)

    Red Nose Day
I 'volunteered' at work to have my head shaved (we had to do it a day early since the guy doing the cutting isn't in Fridays)

So far I've raised over £200 in physical donations, go me! If you want to add anything to the total, I've set up an online form here: http://www.myrednoseday.com/blueshift

    The jAaM juggernaut rumbles on
Not content with putting 'JaAm' on Universe Hot Shot's license plate Hasbro have now put it in his new bio! Which is hilariously brilliant and has swollen my head. Who would have thought something I did quickly 8 years ago still has a ton of resonance today.

Maybe I can get a free toy out of it! Or writing work. God or anything :(

The evolution of Hot Shot as a character is even better now, because now he is based on my comic!

    Armada
Hot Shot is a young, heroic fighter who rushes into danger without regard to his own safety. He courageously charges into the middle of the fight to aid his friends in battle. He has taken charge in several battles, showing great leadership potential. But he needs the guidance of his elders before he can hope to lead the Autobots. Will he learn to be a leader who strives for good, or will his reckless nature ruin his promising future?

    Energon
Hot Shot, once a stubborn and headstrong young fighter, is now a seasoned Autobot warrior. After fighting bravely in the Unicron battles, he has proven to be a skilled soldier with leadership potential. Hot Shot is one of the fastest Autobots, capable of great speed in both robot and vehicle modes. He is able to powerlinx with his good friend, Inferno, and is a force to be reckoned with during the battle for Energon.

    Energon repaint
Energon Hot Shot's enhanced physical state has made him faster and tougher than ever. Before his physical upgrade, Hot Shot was dependent primarily on his speed and tactical abilities during battle. His energon-enhanced body has now given him the strength and endurance required when facing off against some of Megatron's larger warriors such as Scorponok and Demolishor. In addition to being one of Optimus Prime's most valuable soldiers, Energon Hot Shot continues to be a positive role model to younger Autobot rookies such as Ironhide and Rodimus.

    Cybertron
A natural leader with a lot yet to learn, Hot Shot often races straight into danger at top speed. He takes great pride in the fact that he's the fastest Autobot there is, but it isn't until he gets to the Speed Planet that he learns the true meaning of velocity. Faced by the almost unbeatable Override, Hot Shot needs to learn a whole new way of thinking about acceleration before he can win the Great Race.

    Cybertron Defence Force
Hot Shot isn't psyched to give up his modified racer mode and the speed that went with it, but in the service of Cybertron, any sacrifice is worthwhile to him. his adventures on the Speed Planet taught him that speed is'nt everything- true victory can only be won through the combination of wits, reflexes and when it comes doewn to it, the right weaponry. His new, heavily armed modes pack enough firepower to keep most enemies at bay, but if they get close enough, Hot Shot is more than happy to show them the sword fighting techniques he learned from Brakedown back on the Speed Planet

    And then Universe:
Impatient, impulsive, and actually sometimes kind of annoying, Hot Shot is young, but full of potential. Optimus Prime sees in him the qualities of a great leader, and has taken it upon himself to mentor the young warrior in the ways of command. His mini-con partner Jolt tries his best to keep his erratic behavior under control, but Hot Shot is quite skilled in ignoring the voice of reason. He's also obsessed with something called JAAM, which most autobots think is some obscure fuel source, but no one knows for sure .

Tony Lee on New Who comics
This weekend at New York Comic Con IDW announced a Doctor Who ongoing written by The Forgotten writer Tony Lee.

There's a short news report on it on Comic Book Resources here though it doens't seem to have popped up on any Doctor Who news sites yet, tut tut tut: http://comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=19931

I've managed to get Tony to answer 15 devilish, death-defying questions! What else is in store? I just don't know! But no Voord D:
